Former President John Dramani Mahama, one of the candidates seeking to lead the National Democratic Congress (NDC) into the 2024 general election, is expected to tour the Upper East Region beginning Tuesday, May 2, 2023. During his two-day visit, he will make his case to delegates in the various constituencies. According to the Upper East Regional Communication Director for the NDC, Jonathan Salifu Abdallah, Mr. Mahama’s office notified them of the visit.

Speaking to Mark Smith on the Day Break Upper East Show on A1 Radio, Mr. Abdallah Salifu stated that “The former President’s office actually sent a word that they next week, specifically on the 2nd of April to campaign; convince delegates to vote for him even though many people, including myself, believe that it is not even a contest. But as courtesy demands, he has to come around for the delegates to see him. He would have to talk to the delegates and the delegates would have to talk to him.”

The NDC is preparing for its upcoming primaries, which are an essential part of the party’s democratic process for selecting its candidates for the 2024 general elections. The highly contested primaries will take place in all 275 constituencies across the country on May 13, 2023.
