Former President John Dramani Mahama, one of the candidates seeking to lead the National Democratic Congress (NDC) into the 2024 general election, is expected to tour the Upper East Region beginning Tuesday, May 2, 2023. During his two-day visit, he will make his case to delegates in the various constituencies. According to the Upper East Regional Communication Director for the NDC, Jonathan Salifu Abdallah, Mr. Mahama’s office notified them of the visit.

Speaking to Mark Smith on the Day Break Upper East Show on A1 Radio, Mr. Abdallah Salifu stated that “The former President’s office actually sent a word that they next week, specifically on the 2nd of April to campaign; convince delegates to vote for him even though many people, including myself, believe that it is not even a contest. But as courtesy demands, he has to come around for the delegates to see him. He would have to talk to the delegates, and the delegates would have to talk to him.”

On the first day of the tour, the president is expected to make a stop at the Talensi constituency. When the NDC Constituency Secretary for Talensi, Augustine Mmi-oni Guure, spoke to A1 Radio’s Mark Smith, he mentioned that all is set within the constituency to receive the former president.

Mr. Guure mentioned that the grassroot are yearning for an engagement with the former president, John Mahama, and are convinced that the meeting would fuel the passion for Mr. Mahama and the NDC as a whole and propel the party to win the 2024 election.

“So far, preparations are ongoing smoothly. As executives, we had an ad hoc meeting to look into it; the lightning, the groundworks, the security, transportation, and everything else. So far, so good. The committee has done very well. The former president would be at Gbeogo School for the Deaf,  a central point in the constituency. So we are ready to receive the former president.”

It is not about the coming of JM alone but also preparing the grounds for the election in 2024,“ he said.
