The Member of Parliament for the Binduri constituency, Abanga Abdulai, has started a project dubbed “One-Day One-Borehole initiative” for the Binduri constituency in the Upper East Region.

He stated that the initiative is not only focused at addressing the difficulties of safe water accessibility, but also at decreasing the distance that women and children often go to gather water from various sources.

“My aim is not only to end entirely the water challenges in the area, but to reduce the distance some of the people usually travel to collect water. Just as stipulated by the World Health Organization that at least a person should not walk above a kilometre to access safe water,” the legislator said.

Speaking to our reporter, the Deputy Minister of Housing explained further that the initiative could not have been possible without the purchase of the drilling machine.

“The main reason for the machine was to provide clean water for my people, and thank God, it is working perfectly for that. Every day, at least one borehole at a time, we will achieve it. This is because my people, the Binduri people, deserve better and must drink clean water. At least One Day,  One Borehole for each suitable location.”

Responding to critics, the legislator noted that the initiative, “is not for me to gain popularity or money, as some will think or say, but for the people to stop drinking unsafe water. My only joy is when water comes out of that machine, indicating that it has reached clean water. My people have struggled for clean water for far too long, and this is the time for them to enjoy what they have been praying for.”

He therefore assured residents of his continued commitment to the growth of the area.
