Nutritionist Paul Akapanga recently discussed the potential advantages of watermelon in boosting conception during an interview on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East Show. Mr. Akapanga clarified that watermelon, a tasty and energising fruit, has essential minerals and substances that may have a favourable effect on reproductive health.
Mr. Akapanga argues that watermelon is a high source of lycopene, a potent antioxidant that enhances the quality and motility of sperm. Lycopene increases the likelihood of successful fertilization by helping to shield sperm cells from oxidative damage brought on by dangerous free radicals. Additionally, the fruit’s high water content aids in maintaining hydration, which is necessary for both men’s and women’s reproductive systems to perform at their best.
The nutritionist further emphasized that watermelon is packed with vitamins A and C, as well as essential minerals like potassium, which play vital roles in supporting fertility. Vitamin A is known for its role in promoting healthy sperm production, while vitamin C supports the overall health of reproductive organs. Potassium, on the other hand, helps regulate hormonal balance and aids in the production of sex hormones.
Mr. Akapanga highlighted the importance of a well-balanced diet that incorporates nutrient-rich foods like watermelon to promote fertility. He recommended consuming watermelon regularly, especially during the peak summer months when the fruit is in abundance.
