The Bolgatanga District Court has sentenced Head Pastor of Jesus Spanner Miracle church and 3 other men to one week imprisonment whiles pastor’s wife and one other to pay a fine of Ghc2,400 each.
The Bolgatanga District Court Magistrate, District Magistrate H/W Mawukoenya Nutekpor Bolgatanga District Court, on Monday July 10, 2023 sentenced the Head Pastor of the Jesus Spanner Miracle Church and three others to one week imprisonment.
The Church is located at Balungu in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region. The conviction of the pastor and the other members is as a result of a viral video that came from the church during church service where a toddler was manhandled amidst drumming and dancing of the member.
These individuals include, Kwabena Atogpeelige Akongyaane, Head Pastor of Jesus Spanner Miracle Church, Robert Aberinga Akugre, Zacchaeus Ayamga Avaliyemah, and Daniel Ayeliga Ageekilingo.
According to the judgement while the pastor, his assistant and the two other men are expected to serve one week imprisonment was again fined 200 penalty units each which is amounting to Ghc.2, 400.
Mary Akongyaane wife of the head pastor and mother of the then 5-week old child is to also pay the same 200 penalty units amounting ¢2,400 whiles Veronica Ayamga a woman who was seen in the video been manhandled the child was fine 250 penalty units which amounts to GH¢3,000 or be jailed for 12 months in default.
All the six were convicted based on their own pleadings by the Bolgatanga District Court. All of them pleaded guilty to the respective charges following the physical abuse of a child under two months of age and pleaded for Mercy.
District Magistrate H/W Mawukoenya Nutekpor Bolgatanga District Court, was however spared the two women Mary Akongyaane and Veronica Ayamga of a jail term because they are all breastfeeding mothers of children below 2 years.
