The Saint Mary’s Girls Primary School in the Kassena Nankana Municipality of the Upper East has received roofing sheets from the Parliamentary Candidate of the National Democratic Congress in Navrongo Central, Mr. Simon Aworigo after being hit by a windstorm.
Speaking to the media the Deputy Director in Charge of Planning at the Ghana Education Service at the Municipal level, Albert Adonnawura noted the school has been in a deplorable state for so long that challenges of dropout and other activities among pupils have risen over time.
“The structure of the school requires a lot of renovation. Looking at the cracked walls, doors, and others, it tells us that more needs to be done before we can even think of learning materials. Being the only basic school for girls in the area, its structure and others should not have been like this.”
Appreciating the gesture, he appealed to individuals and nongovernmental organisations to go to the aid of the school as teaching and learning illy effective.
“I appreciate the donation due the school, but more needs to be done because as a girl’s school, things need to look more compatible for them to improve their learning abilities as they advance,” he added.
The Constituency Chairman, Adda Cephas Akoriwo who made the donation on Mr. Simon Aworigo’s behalf explained that it was just a temporary initiative as plans were far advanced to improve the infrastructure situation at the educational sector in the area.
According to him the reason for the quick response was due to the bad weather. The pupils usually have to sit and learn after portions of the roofing were ripped off by the heavy wind.
The Constituency Chairman however noted that the school will receive special attention if the NDC as a party comes to power in the 2024 elections.
