The Northern Development Authority has built and commissioned a three-unit classroom block for teachers and pupils of Boya-Natinga basic school in the Pusiga District of the Upper East Region.

The new structure according to school authorities came at the right time as the pupils used to learn under a mud-uncompleted structure that was built years ago by the community members.

Their previous structure, they said over the years, has caused some pupils to abandon their studies.

One of the teachers said, “It has not been easy with us as teachers and the pupils as well due to the structure they used to learn under. Just look at it on your right-hand side, you could see that it was a death trap. The children were not coming because of their nature. So, we must say that this new structure has come at the right time, and we will forever be grateful to the NDA for this wonderful support.”

Boya-Natinga basic school is the only basic school in the Boya-Natinga community in the Pusiga District and has a pupil population of 235. The new structure was well-furnished with a KVIP and a provision of a few pieces of furniture for use.

The structure, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Northern Development Authority, Williams Zoogah noted, came from the One million Dollar per Constituency initiatives.

“This project is part of the over 160 projects of the NDA in the Upper East Region; comprising schools and other structures.  And these projects are all working towards poverty eradication and improving livelihood especially among the underprivileged. So, this structure as you all said has come to improve teaching and learning among the pupils. So, we are pleased to be here today to hand it over for use.”

He added that the community members should use and protect the structure as their own as maintenance culture is key to societal improvements.

He therefore hinted that efforts were underway to assist the school with potable water so that effective teaching and learning can improve.
