The Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Rex Asanga is excited about the number of girls participating in this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the municipality.

Over 600,000 candidates are expected to sit for the 2023 Basic Education Certificate Examination BECE across the country. In the Bolgatanga Municipality, a total of 3,213 students are expected to sit for the exams. Out of the number, 1,729 are girls while 1,484 are boys.

It is as a result of this data that, the MCE after touring some examination centres in the municipality, made comments about the numbers.

“This year we have a total number 3,213 candidates out of that we have the Boy 1,484 and the girls are 1,729 and that is what is exciting for me. Another exciting thing is the number of students who are offering French. You know that we are surrounded by French speaking countries and we are always wondering why we don’t make French a very important subject in J.H.S and S.H.S. That is why it is exciting for me.”

Mr. Asanga also admonished the students to avoid examination malpractices and apply what they studied.

The MCE was accompanied by some staff from the Assembly and the Municipal Director of Education Estella Kye-eboh. Speaking on behalf of the Madam Kye-eboh, the Municipal GES Public Relations Officer and Officer in charge of TVET, Fredrick Agunga-dongo Ayine said aside the numerous challenges confronting the education in the municipality, the GES is happy about the number of students taking the examination this year.
