The Ghana National Association of Garages (GNAG), Upper East Regional chapter, has expressed their enthusiasm regarding the recently completed mechanical enclave in the Bolgatanga Municipality, designed to support their operations.

The association has affirmed its immediate readiness to transition into the mechanical enclave and begin their activities within the shortest possible time.

This association comprises various professionals including auto mechanics, auto electrical technicians, auto welders, and motorbike mechanics, among others.

Edmund Kolbil, the Assistant Secretary of the Association, shared this sentiment during a conversation with Mark Smith on A1 Radio’s Daybreak Upper East show following the official handover of the project to the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly.

Mr. Kolbil stated, “Our association is immensely delighted to finally possess a facility. We have faced numerous challenges in securing one, and given the scattered nature of our members’ operations throughout the market, this new facility will be of great significance.”

He further emphasised that the mechanical enclave’s presence would enhance their operational efficiency and promote professionalism, as they would now work collectively within a centralised location.

Mr. Kolbil also noted, “The impact of our presence there will extend beyond our association; it will positively influence the entire region. As we currently lack unity, some individuals who might not even be part of us claim to be mechanics. Their actions tarnish our reputation, especially when they mishandle customers’ vehicles. This enclave will help curb such issues.”

Seidu Akurugu, the Vice President of the Association, acknowledged certain concerns while expressing their intention to relocate to the facility by September. Their objective is to thoroughly evaluate the enclave and subsequently address any requisites or improvements required.

The mechanical enclave project is part of a broader World Bank initiative benefiting 42 municipalities across the country, including Bawku and the Bolgatanga Municipalities. This endeavour aims to stimulate employment opportunities as a component of the Ghana Secondary Cities project.
