Gamborongo Community in Accra Pulls Resources to Construct a Health Center

Gamborongo Sumaasum Maltinga Association in Accra has raised GH¢ 41,000.00 during the Easter festivities towards the construction of a health center in Gamborongo back home in Bongo district of the Upper East region.

Gamborongo, a farming community and a suburb of Bongo district has no health center which is critical to the wellbeing of its members.

It is on this backdrop members of the association who are indigenes of Gamborongo  but reside in the nation’s capital while trading in livestock, food vending and beautification raised funds towards the building of a health center in order to meet the health needs of community members.

Communications director of the association, Akurigo Roland in an exclusive interview with a1radioonline.com said sick persons including pregnant women in the community have died in the process of transporting them on motorbikes to the nearest health center either in Bongo or Bolgatanga, a distance of about 15 kilometers.

According to him the situation at the community is affecting the lives of community members who are predominantly farmers. He has therefore entreated government and other stakeholders to intervene in their plight to provide a health care center for the community.

An elder of the community, Acheampong Nsobila said a stream linking Gamborongo to the district capital Bongo is not passable when it rains. Mr. Nsobila opined that the situation is adversely affecting the education of children and worsening the health plights of community members. He has therefore appealed to the Bongo district assembly and other stakeholders to help construct the stream.

Bongo district assembly presiding member, Luke Atazona Ayamga who graced the occasion commended members of the community for their effort at augmenting government strives to provide better lives to citizens. Mr. Ayamga who doubles a presidential staffer said works are underway to connect some communities in the district to the national grid and solar lights before the end of this year. He entreated the association to register the group in order to advance their course and to enable them seek for support from government and Non-Governmental Organizations.

Mr. Ayamga as part of efforts in providing health care center in the area pledged an amount of GH¢ 1,000.00 towards the construction of the facility.  Mr. Ayamga on behalf of National Democratic Congress parliamentary candidate of Bongo, Edward Bawa and the party executives of the constituency pledged GH¢ 2,000.00.

Mba Anthony, a senior accountant at Ghana Maritime Authority and resident of Anafobisi in the Bongo district during the occasion also pledged GH¢ 1, 000 in support of the construction of the health center. Other individuals also pledged to support the association with building materials.
