All six (6) suspects arrested for assaulting a girl in Dagmweo, a suburb of Bolgatanga, have been granted bail by the Bolgatanga Circuit Court. The six girls pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to assault and assaulting a girl, contravening the laws of Ghana.

Counsel for the accused persons, Lawyer Mohammed Nambe Tahiru, submitted an application for bail on the grounds that the suspects are residents of Bolgatanga, hence available at all times when needed. The second ground was that the suspects are students and, therefore, needed time to prepare for their upcoming exams. The police prosecution did not raise any objections to the application.

The judge granted bail to the suspects in the amount of GHS 10,000 each, with two sureties. One of the accused was granted bail earlier on 3rd October 2023 because she is a nursing mother.

The case is adjourned to 23rd October 2023 for the hearing to continue.

It would be recalled that the Bolgatanga Circuit Court, on Monday, October 2nd, 2023, remanded six girls into police custody for allegedly assaulting and abusing their young colleague, contrary to the law.

The five were arrested by the Bolgatanga police after a young girl was seen being beaten by approximately six young ladies in a viral video that was reported to have taken place on Saturday, September 30th, 2023.

According to the state prosecutor, the complainant stated that she was called by one of the accused, who invited her to meet near the Bolgatanga mobile astroturf park. Upon her arrival, she was subjected to a beating, with the accusation of snatching one of the ladies’ boyfriends.

Before the court’s decision to keep the accused persons in police custody for their alleged involvement in the physical attack on the complainant, the prosecutor mentioned that the police needed more time to conduct further investigations into the matter.
