It would be recalled that the Regional Secretary of the NPP, who also serves as a Parliamentary Candidate (PC) aspirant for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Bolgatanga Central Constituency, Elvis Atia Awonekai, was accused of corrupting the electoral process by offering Ghc500 to each of the 794 delegates.

These allegations were made by Agana Bawa Rashid, another candidate. He voiced these accusations during a conversation with A1 Radio’s Joshua Asaah regarding the ongoing parliamentary primaries in the Upper East Region.

Meanwhile, Elvis Figo Awonekai has responded to the allegations. He explained that any aspirant who cannot raise at least Ghc500 for delegates to transport themselves has no business vying for any elective positions.

He, however, denied spending as much as Ghc500 on each delegate. He explained that his company team, however, reached out to delegates and offered them a token for transportation.

Mr. Awonekai explained that these issues around money for delegates have only become a concern because the said candidate knows he is losing heavily.

The NPP in the Upper East Region is conducting primaries in 10 constituencies, namely Bolgatanga Central, Builsa South, Navrongo, Chiana-Paga, Bongo, Talensi, Nabdam, Zebila, Garu, and Tempane constituencies.

In three constituencies, namely Pusiga, Bolgatanga East, and Builsa North Constituencies, candidates went unopposed.

Elections are currently on hold in the Bawku Central Constituency.
