Upper East Regional Minister visits SOCO project sites

The Upper East Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu, has inspected ongoing construction works under the Gulf of Guinea Northern Regions Social Cohesion (SOCO) Project in three districts of the region. The districts include the Builsa South District, Bongo, and Talensi Districts.

At Gbedema-Ghenssa in the Builsa South District, the Minister inspected one three-unit classroom block with an office, a staff common room, a store, one four-seater KVIP toilet, and a two-unit urinal structures, which were about 50 percent complete. He further inspected the same facilities at Logvosa, a community in the district.

At Baasa-Fumbisi, the Minister inspected the construction of an animal market with three fences, an office, a kraal, a veterinary bay, a two-seater KVIP toilet, and two urinals, about 10 percent complete. He extended the inspection to renovation works on 1 No. 10-unit market store at Kanjarga, which were 80 percent complete.

The Regional Minister and his team later inspected the construction of a 1.8 diameter pipe culvert on the Bachinga-Nyanbisa road. Mr. Yakubu, on his visit to the Bongo and Talensi Districts, inspected projects, including fishing ponds and health facilities, which were under construction and at various stages of completion.

In an interview, the Minister said the SOCO projects were community-driven and, when completed, would solve the socio-economic challenges in the beneficiary communities. He expressed satisfaction with the quality and progress of work done at the sites visited and was confident that contractors would meet the six-month completion deadline.
