The founder of the Rapid Response Unit for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia (RRU4DMB), Filson Awankua, in a recent interview, expressed his firm belief that Dr. Bawumia’s candidacy as the presidential flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is a blessing to the Northern sector of Ghana.
According to Mr. Awankua, Dr. Bawumia’s leadership is a source of motivation for the youth, inspiring them to aspire for a brighter future, especially within the NPP as a party.
He highlighted the transformative impact Dr. Bawumia has had on the political landscape, stating that the Vice President is not only changing the narrative but also affirming the NPP’s commitment to inclusivity.
According to the founder, the NPP has established itself as a party that embraces diversity, and Bawumia’s candidacy further strengthens this image.
In comparing Dr. Bawumia to the former president, John Mahama, who hails from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Awankua acknowledged Mr. Mahama’s historical significance as a past president from the Northern sector. However, he pointed out that the former president has a “past glory” and argued that the mistakes witnessed during his presidency should not be repeated.
“I will not say John Mahama has not contributed when it comes to the number of presidencies the northern sector has produced. But what didn’t we see during his tenure? Such mistakes, we do not need to repeat them,” Awankua remarked.
Awankua went on to emphasize that Dr. Bawumia, as a fresh and dynamic candidate, has made substantial contributions, especially during challenging times such as the global COVID-19 pandemic.
He commended Bawumia for his role in steering the country’s economy towards recovery during the unprecedented crisis, making him a compelling choice for the upcoming elections.
“So, why not give him the mandate?” Awankua questioned, indicating the need for a leader with a proven track record of resilience and effectiveness, particularly in times of adversity.
