In the Upper East Region, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had two major events on Saturday: the election of a parliamentary candidate for the Bawku Central Constituency and the popular acclamation of the MP of Parliament for Binduri as a parliamentary candidate for the area.

When Peter Ayinbisa Ayamga, the Communication Director for the NPP, spoke on the Day Break Upper East Show, he mentioned that the events in the region have been peaceful and entirely successful.

In the Bawku Central Constituency, Paul Alale Agobiri was elected as a parliamentary candidate with 176 votes, beating his closest contender, Mohammed Tahiru Nambe, by one vote. Meanwhile, Gabiana Abugri, who has long contested as PC on behalf of the party, garnered the fewest votes, 33.

“It was very interesting to see the close nature of the contest. The winner had to win by a single vote. You see, this shows that every single vote matters. But basically, it was peaceful, and we are happy that, at long last, we have completed our contest in preparing for the 2024 election,” he said.

In Binduri, the court had ajourned a decision on a motion of injuction that had been filed by disgruntled contestant Alex Avoka, and as such, the party went ahead with the popular acclamation of Abdulai Abanga.

“The hearing stands, but it was ajourned because the applicant could not adduce evidence of service to the election commission,” he said.
