Former President John Mahama has announced plans to enhance local mining practices by establishing district mining offices across districts with active mining activities.
He unveiled the initiative during the commencement of his Building Ghana Tour at the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs.
The initiative, he said, will not only elevate the standards of local mining but also combat the menace of illegal mining.
He emphasized the multifaceted role these district mining offices would play in revitalizing the mining sector.
He again stressed the importance of creating a framework that promotes effective and clean mining practices, contributing to both environmental sustainability and economic growth.
The former president added that the district offices aim to decentralize the oversight of mining activities, making it more accessible and responsive to local nuances.
This decentralized approach, he said, is expected to enhance regulatory control and facilitate swifter responses to potential environmental threats.
