Atom, a Ghanaian hip-life artiste has endorsed artistes paying payola to get DJs to play their songs on air and in the clubs.

Payola is the local name for monies paid to radio and club DJs by artistes to get their songs played.

Speaking in an interview with A1Radio’s Phatbone, the “Ye wo krom” hitmaker noted that paying payola has been in the system for time immemorial and he believes that is the way to go.

He mentioned that “it was best to pay payola to DJs to get your songs heard by the public.”

He noted that in Ghana, if an upcoming artiste fails to pay payola, he/she will have their music rot in their closet.

The Ye wo krom hitmaker was however quick to add that although he endorses paying payola, he was going to go hard on any DJ who takes his money and fails to play his music.

Atom expressed his distaste at the piracy in the system saying “the websites upload our songs for people to download it but they fail to give us some of the proceeds they get” adding that he, if given the opportunity, will fight this cheat boot for boot.
