We don’t want our salaries on e-zwich – NAGRAT tells CAGD

A threat from the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) to freeze salaries of public workers without e-zwich cards has sparked agitations on the labour front.

The directive from the Controller charged Public sector workers to obtain e-zwich cards by the end of May 2016 or forfeit their salaries.

Government explained that the move forms parts of efforts to rid the payroll of ghost names and people receiving salaries for no work done.

But the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) has vehemently opposed the directive.

NAGRAT President Christian Addae-Poku in an interview with Starr News said labour will resist government’s attempt to force the e-zwich cards on them.

“We have not even agreed on it in principle so controller cannot just go ahead and do that.

“It is my money, I have worked for it…I am supposed to be paid through bank, so if somebody is promoting his business and government wants to use teachers and public sector workers that would be unfortunate.”
