The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Talensi, Thomas Dauna Wuni, has openly expressed his disappointment with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for allowing Former President John Mahama as their flagbearer for the upcoming 2024 elections.

The DCE has taken issue with what he perceives as an attempt by Mr. Mahama to rewrite history and regain the presidency, despite losing power in the 2016 elections.

Speaking on A1 Radio, the DCE argued that the former president’s attempt to return to the presidency was futile, emphasizing that Mr. Mahama was a one-term president who could not rewrite history to secure another term.

According to the DCE, the former president had his chance, served a single term, and should accept that the electorate have moved on.

He added that the focus on Mr. Mahama’s candidacy has overshadowed the NDC’s ability to articulate a coherent campaign strategy that resonates with the electorates.

“Just look at the NDC, they cannot ever come up with proactive campaign messages, aside from the confusing ‘24-hour economy’ narrative, which their own members are confused about. If you asked them to explain what it meant, they will be telling you stories without basis,” he stated.

“I have had the privilege to travel to the UK before and I have seen how their 24-hour economy is run, so, is the former President saying that at the District Assembly level, we can also run a 24-hour operation there? Come on, we need to be serious with the electorates,” he added.

However, he reiterated his belief that history cannot be altered, and Mr. Mahama’s aspirations for a return to the presidency in 2024 are unrealistic.
