The Black Queens of Ghana have been knocked out of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris after losing 4-3 on aggregate to the Copper Queens of Zambia in the third-round of qualifiers.

The Black Queens fought valiantly but fell short as they held Zambia to a 3-3 draw in Zambia.

The Black Queens put up a better and more impressive performance in Ndola, unlike they did against the Copper Queens at the Accra Sports Stadium in the first leg where they lost 1-0.

Ghana coach Nora Hauptle made just one change to the side that started in the first leg, with former Arsenal player Freda Ayisi making way for Gifty Assifuah.

The Black Queens conceded after just 11 minutes when Zambia captain Barbra Banda scored with a clinical finish.

The Black Queens fought back to level the score before half time through Gifty Assifuah.

Kabange Mupopo, who plays for the home team, put the Copper Queens 2-1 up. However, Ghana restored parity five minutes later.

Substitute Azumah Bugre put Ghana ahead for the first time in the game.

Jennifer Cudjoe received a red card just at the close of the game which resulted in a free kick.

Banda smashed the ball low and hard into the net from the free kick, beating Ghana’s wall to make it 3-3.

This result sees Zambia progress to the final round of qualifiers for the Olympic Games.

The Black Queens will now switch their attention to the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations later this year after qualifying for the tournament for the first time since 2018.
