The Upper East Regional Chairman for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Anthony Namoo, suggests that the running mate to be selected by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the party’s flagbearer, would be an individual hailing from the southern part of the country. Additionally, the said individual would be a Christian.
Speaking on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East Show, Mr. Namoo explained that the aforementioned factors are key dynamics that would influence the 2024 general elections.
“You cannot expect the person to come from the north. We are building an inclusive government. If you want to build an inclusive government, you have to do it in a sense that all parts of the country are factored in. You have to understand that this country didn’t start together. We had the colony, the Ashanti Kingdom, the Northern Protectorate, and Trans-Volta Togoland.”
“We have to be cautious about what we are doing,” he said.
Referring to Dr. Bawumia’s vision statement of uniting talents, Mr. Namoo explained that since Dr. Bawumia, of northern descent and Islamic orientation, leads the party, it would only be proper that a running mate meets the other criteria.
