The Pusiga Constituency NDC Communication Bureau has raised serious concerns regarding the ongoing voter registration exercise within the constituency.
According to the constituency chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Osman Rahim, citizens of Sankanduri, a town in Burkina Faso, were allegedly brought into the registration center by the NPP parliamentary candidate for Pusiga, Alhaji Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba, to register.
He indicated that efforts were made to prevent their entry, but the situation escalated into open confrontations between the NDC party Chairman, the area’s MP, Hon. Laadi Ayii Ayamba, and Mr. Hanan, who purportedly is responsible for the mass influx of foreigners for registration.
Speaking on the issue on A1 Radio, Benjamin Atause, the Upper East Regional Deputy Communications Officer for the NDC, emphasized the urgency of intervention by all relevant stakeholders, including security services and the media, to prevent further incidents of such nature and safeguard the democratic process.
However, Emmanuel Awuinimi, the Communications Director for NPP in the area, refuted the allegations, labeling them as unfounded.
Mr. Awuinimi, who also spoke on A1 Radio, argued that some individuals accused of being foreigners were actually residents residing within the border zones between Burkina Faso and Togo.
