Cardinal Namdini Mining Limited has donated about 14,636 exercise books to pupils in its operational area.
The large-scale mining company, operating in the Talensi district of the Upper East region, through the move has demonstrated its commitment to supporting the local communities in the area of education as a way of promoting the sector.
About 1,800 pupils from primary one (1) to Junior High School three (3) from six (6) communities have benefited from the branded Cardinal Namdini Mining exercise books. Each pupil is to receive at least 8 exercise books to boost their learning experience.
The beneficiary areas include Bapeela, Biung, Datoko, Elim, Sheaga, and Tolla.
Speaking at a ceremony to hand over the learning materials to the district education directorate, Vice President of Cardinal Namdini Mining Ltd, Feng Baoli, described education as a fundamental pillar of growth and development in all communities worldwide.
According to Mr. Baoli, his outfit is fully committed to promoting the growth of education as well as supporting parents financially in their wards’ education in their catchment area.
“Education is a fundamental pillar for the growth and development of any society, and Cardinal Namdini Mining Ltd firmly believes in its significance. By this donation, the company aims to support and promote education in its project area, by burden-sharing the financial cost parents go through in procuring books for their wards’ education. The donation of the exercise books will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the learning experience of the pupils in these communities as they will use them for note-taking to enhance their literacy and numeracy.”
The Talensi district Director of Education, Christiana Azure Ayinzoya, who received the books on behalf of the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the various headteachers from the beneficiary schools, applauded the mining company for the gesture. Mrs. Ayinzoya urged Cardinal Mining to expand its educational support to other schools in the district.
Thomas Duanab Wuni Pearson, the District Chief Executive for Talensi, while acknowledging the efforts of the company, called on them to move beyond donations of books and construction of school blocks.
Mr. Duanab urged Cardinal Mining to go extra and take education in the district as a major priority.
Chief of Digaare, Alhaji Ibrahim Borabon, expressed happiness about the donation and called on the company to include establishing a University in the area in their educational plans.
Meanwhile, the students were full of joy for the books and appealed to the mining company to also remember them in the area of Information Communication and Technology (ICT) in various schools.
