The Parliamentary Candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Bolgatanga Central Constituency, Figo Atiah Awonkai, has made a contribution to the Nyariga youth, donating GHC 2,000.00 to foster development in the area.
This gesture was part of his broader commitment to promote growth and youth empowerment, which he promises to prioritize if elected as the Member of Parliament in the upcoming December 7th elections.
Speaking at the inauguration of the youth group’s “Timmaalego Committee,” Mr. Awonkai emphasized the importance of addressing local infrastructure issues, particularly the Bolgatanga-Nyariga road, which has posed significant challenges for the community.
“I will not want to stand here and try to do politics, but you will bear with me that the Bolgatanga-Nyariga road has been a challenge accessing it to and from Bolga. I hope we all can see some ongoing construction works on it. Politics, as I will always say, is about bringing development to those who need it the most, and that is what I will do if given the platform,” Mr. Awonkai stated.
The newly inaugurated Timmaalego Committee aims to fulfill the functions of the Unit Committee, ensuring peace and security in the community. It consists of five members selected from each of the four polling stations across the area.
The Assembly Member for the area, Joseph Ayamga, expressed gratitude for Awonkai’s support. He highlighted the ongoing construction of the Bolgatanga-Nyariga road as evidence of Mr. Awonkai’s commitment to the community’s welfare.
Mr. Ayamga noted that numerous appeals to the current MP for Bolgatanga Central, Isaac Adongo, and MP for Bongo, Edward Bawa, had been ignored, despite the road’s deteriorating condition during the rainy season.
“You will bear with me that Nyariga community members have suffered so much on this road, which has been in its bad state for decades. And we have made several appeals, but they (Isaac Adongo and Edward Bawa) have failed us; to even respond to our plea is a problem. Well, who responds to us is who we will see as a brother and a developer,” Mr. Ayamga remarked.
Mr. Awonkai’s commitment to addressing these pressing issues, they say, will garner support from the community, with many hopeful for the positive changes he promises to bring if elected.
