The Dorongo dam has been shortlisted for rehabilitation under the Gulf of Guinea Northern Regions Social Cohesion (SOCO) project’s second phase after several appeals and lamentations by residents.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Bolgatanga, Rex Asanga, who disclosed this to A1 News during the handover of some SOCO projects to communities, expressed confidence and assured that the assembly is committed to rehabilitating the dam for the benefit of the community this year.
“The Dorongo dam, we are going to start with the first phase of the rehabilitation. Because it is a very important project for us, so in the second phase of the SOCO we have a lot to do and the dam cannot be an exception,” he said.
Residents of the area have repeatedly called for the dam’s rehabilitation, emphasizing its importance for farming activities in the community.
The dam’s rehabilitation is expected to enhance agricultural productivity and improve the livelihoods of farmers in the community.
Following the announcement by MCE Asanga, residents who spoke to A1 News expressed their gratitude and relief that their long-awaited plea has finally been heard.
“We are extremely happy and thankful to the government for remembering us. The rehabilitation of our dam will bring life back to our farms and ensure food security for our families,” Nyaaba Baba, a resident, said.
Another resident, Sunday Nsoh, added, “We have been struggling to irrigate our crops due to the dam’s poor condition. This news is a game-changer for us. We can’t wait to see the rehabilitation works begin.”
