The Member of Parliament for Binduri, Abudali Abanga, is likely to retain his seat. This is despite the fact that MPs for that constituency have often failed to succeed in their second attempts to represent the constituents.
The people of Binduri are, however, ready to support Mr. Abanga’s return to Parliament because of the level of development he has driven in the area.
This is according to the Upper East Regional Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salahudeen Musah Al-Khomieni. He said this in an interview on A1 Radio’s ‘Daybreak Upper East’ show.
The developments include the drilling of over 144 boreholes, the connection of communities to the electrical grid, and the development of sports, health, and educational infrastructure.
Beyond boreholes, he stated the NPP’s footprint extended to employment schemes for young people. Mr. Al-Khomieni mentioned support extended to farmers through the provision of pumping machines, underscoring efforts to boost agricultural productivity.
Speaking on electoral prospects, Mr. Al-Khomieni exuded optimism, saying, “We are working extra hard to secure the seat.”
Highlighting infrastructural achievements, Mr. Al-Khomieni mentioned the successful lobbying efforts for a National Health Insurance office, currently underway in its construction phase. He urged voters in Binduri not to disappoint the incumbent and asked them to give him the necessary support. “I was in Binduri and I can see all the developmental projects that were undertaken by the Member of Parliament, and I am appealing to the people of Binduri, if they are listening to me, they shouldn’t disappoint the man. He has tried so much. He has changed our lives and this is the time for them to also repay him by re-electing him back to parliament.”
In a direct challenge to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate in Binduri, Al-Khomieni issued a stark warning: “The NDC parliamentary candidate in Binduri should not waste resources in his campaign because he will lose the election,” he said.
His assertions were not limited to Binduri alone, as he predicted success in Pusiga and Bolga East areas, reinforcing the NPP’s regional ambitions.
Furthermore, Mr. Al-Khomieni hinted at an approach towards ensuring electoral success, stating, “I can assure the NDC that this time around it’s going to be boot-for-boot.” This statement, he said, reflects the heightened stakes and competitive spirit characterizing the political landscape in the Upper East region as the election date draws near.
