First-time participant, Bolgatanga East Private Schools Association (BEPSA), have emerged as winners of the electrifying 2024 A1 Radio/Happy Man Bitters Invitational Tournament held at the Mobil Park in Bolgatanga, Upper East Regional Capital.
The Invitational Tournament is held every year by A1 Radio, a subsidiary of the Agreed Best Communication Company, and its partners to allow corporate organizations the opportunity to exercise, engage in sports, and network.
This year’s tournament, the 11th edition, focused on the theme “Games for Peace.”
While the purpose of the tournament is to promote wellness, many organizations have been known to take the event seriously, training for weeks and sometimes months ahead to give them a superior advantage over their counterparts, particularly in men’s football.
The tournament opened with a curtain-raiser match featuring a combined team of A1 Radio and AquaBolg Natural Mineral Water facing headline sponsor, Happy Man Bitters. Happy Man Bitters defeated the A1 Radio-AquaBolg Natural Mineral Water team 2-0.
The participating teams were BEPSA, Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Ghana Police Service, VRA-NEDCO, Great Victory Academy, and SSNIT.
In the group stage, teams battled fiercely for a chance to progress. Notable results included:
SSNIT triumphed over the Ghana Police Service in their opening match. Great Victory Academy defeated GJA 2-0. Bolga East Private Schools Association secured a win against GNAT. VRA/NEDCO emerged victorious over UCC-DESAG. Ghana Private Schools Association (Bolga East) won against Ghana Police Service. VRA/NEDCO defeated GJA. These were in the first round of matches.
In the next round of matches, Great Victory Academy won against UCC-DESAG, Ghana Police Service defeated GNAT, GJA was defeated by UCC-DESAG.
Ghana Private Schools Association (Bolga East) edged past SSNIT while VRA/NEDCO was beaten by Great Victory Academy.
BEPSA won the tournament on penalties after holding the Ghana Police Service to a draw during playtime at the finals.
