The Upper East Regional Women’s Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fawzia Abagnamah Yakubu, has encouraged young women to actively pursue leadership roles despite the challenges associated with politics and public service.
According to her, the political space remains largely male-dominated and demanding, requiring women who aspire to lead to show resilience, confidence, and determination. She, however, urged young women not to be discouraged by societal perceptions or obstacles.
Madam Yakubu made the remarks during the Regional Youth/TEIN Conference held at the Bolgatanga Nursing Training College on May 23, 2026, under the theme, “Building the Next Generation of Leaders: From Campuses to Communities – The Reset Agenda.”
The conference brought together youth leaders, students, and party supporters to discuss leadership development and youth participation in governance.
Madam Yakubu noted that while leadership is often admired from afar, many people fail to recognize the sacrifices, pressure, and responsibilities that come with occupying public office.
She stressed that successful leadership is built on discipline, consistency, mental strength, and deliberate preparation rather than luck or popularity.
“People admire leaders because of the positions they occupy, but they do not always see the sacrifices and challenges behind the success,” she indicated.
Madam Yakubu further advised young people to make thoughtful decisions about their future and to begin preparing early for leadership responsibilities, especially those with ambitions to occupy higher political offices, including the Vice Presidency.
She added that challenges are not limited to politics alone, emphasizing that every profession comes with difficulties that require persistence, focus, and commitment to overcome.
