The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Binduri Constituency of the Upper East Region has condemned the recent attack on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constituency Chairman by unidentified gunmen.

During a press conference on Friday, July 26, 2024, the NDC expressed profound disappointment in Abanga Abdulai, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Binduri and NPP Parliamentary Candidate, for his public comments linking the NDC to the attack.

The MP, speaking on various media platforms, accused the NDC of orchestrating the attack to disrupt his campaign, alleging that the party lacks substantial political messages in the constituency.

The NDC, represented by Constituency Communication Officer Counselor Jambeidu Mbawini Sadat, refuted these allegations, urging MP Abdulai to act with responsibility and impartiality as an MP.

“We condemn this attack on the NPP chairman. We also wish to express our utmost disappointment in Hon. Abanga Abdulai’s reportage on the matter, and we condemn him in totality for loosely pronouncing that the NDC is behind this attack. As a leader of the constituency, Hon. Abanga Abdulai should have been guided and spoken as an MP for all instead of tagging politics on this issue.”

Counselor Sadat also criticized MP Abdulai for his perceived inaction in addressing previous security issues in the constituency.

He pointed out that the MP had failed to issue statements empathizing with the people of Binduri or calling on security agencies to curb the frequent attacks.

“Our good brothers and sisters from the media, you will agree with us that these and many previous attacks required our representative in Parliament, Hon. Abanga Abdulai, to have issued statements empathizing with the people of Binduri and calling on the security agencies to act accordingly and bring an end to these incessant attacks,” Counselor Sadat remarked.

“We are very convinced that if he had taken some action in the past, maybe we wouldn’t have gotten here.”

He further asserted that the MP’s comments were false and baseless, emphasizing the NDC’s commitment to peace.

“We see the MP’s accusation as not just false but baseless, and we take great exception to it. This is because the NDC is a peace-loving party and has always given its people, Kusaug, and Ghana the peace, security, and tranquility they deserve. In fact, if any party has the right to blame its opponent, then it should be we in the NDC rather blaming the NPP because our members and executives have faced more attacks than the NPP.”
