Bakutoma Abubakar Iddi Wuni, a native of the Bawku area who is seeking to become a Member of Parliament for Bawku Central Constituency as an independent candidate, is calling out his former party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), for its inability to serve the interests of its members.
Mr. Wuni, who recently held a press conference to renounce his membership in the NPP, said the party had gone against its own principles.
“For the last 7 years, what has the NPP done? How has the NPP treated its own supporters in Bawku Central Constituency?” he said when speaking to Mark Smith on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East Show.
Additionally, Mr. Wuni said the NPP had failed to maintain peace in the Bawku area.
“What freedom is there in Bawku under the NPP? There is a conflict that has persisted, and the entire government machinery cannot bring it under control.”
While admitting that stakeholders have a role to play in ensuring that peace returns to Bawku, he stated that the government should play the central role, which it has failed to do.
Mr. Wuni was quick to add that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has not been a better alternative either, saying that the party and the area’s representative in Parliament had failed to bring development to the region.
He also pointed to politicians for playing roles in fueling the conflict. If elected as MP, Mr. Wuni promised to help in the development of the area while ensuring lasting peace.
