A group of concerned youth in the Kassena-Nankana West District of the Upper East Region has condemned the recent actions of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Youth Wing, describing their conduct as an “act of vandalism.”

The youth expressed their outrage following the forced closure of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) office by the NPP’s Youth Wing in the area, demanding immediate arrests of those involved.

During a press conference on behalf of the concerned youth, Dennis Akoriwo recounted the events of Wednesday, August 14, 2024.

According to Akoriwo, at approximately 9:30 AM, a group led by the NPP Constituency Youth Organizer, Mr. Kassim Mandela, stormed the District Agricultural Office in Paga.

They allegedly demanded agricultural inputs, specifically fertilizers, from the District Director of Agriculture.

The group accused the director and his staff of distributing fertilizers only to supporters of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), claims the concerned youth described as “palpably false.”

Akoriwo condemned the actions of Mr. Mandela and his group, emphasizing that the fertilizers are intended for all citizens, not just NPP supporters.

He expressed concern over the potential impact of such behavior on the district’s social cohesion, which has been nurtured since its creation in 2007.

The concerned youth called for the immediate arrest of Mr. Mandela and his cohorts for “vandalizing public property, disturbing public peace, and wasting individuals’ time and resources.”

They also demanded that the Paga Traditional Council summon Mr. Mandela for his actions and called for the immediate reopening of the MoFA office to resume the distribution of fertilizers.

The youth stressed the importance of agriculture in the district, which is the leading formal employer, creating over 2,300 jobs annually.

They warned that any attempt to divert government support for political interests would be met with maximum resistance.
