Bismark Osei, an economist at CK Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences, has voiced concerns about the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) recent manifesto launch, highlighting skepticism about the feasibility of the proposed policies and the government’s track record.
Mr. Osei expressed doubts regarding the credibility of several key components of the manifesto, particularly the promises surrounding job creation and economic recovery. He pointed to the claim by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President, that the government has created 3 million jobs, suggesting that this figure warrants further scrutiny.
According to Mr. Osei, the lack of detailed evidence supporting this claim raises questions about its accuracy and the actual impact on the employment landscape. Speaking on A1 Radio, Mr. Osei further questioned the efficacy of the Youth Start initiative, which is designed to support young entrepreneurs.
He noted that despite the initiative’s intentions, there have been concerns about its effectiveness and the tangible benefits it has delivered to the youth. The program’s ability to generate sustainable employment opportunities and foster entrepreneurial growth remains uncertain, he added.
Mr. Osei also expressed skepticism about the broader economic recovery promises made by the NPP, emphasizing that while the manifesto outlines ambitious goals, the practical implementation of these policies and their potential to revive the economy require careful examination.
The economist stressed the importance of assessing the actual outcomes of past initiatives and the realistic impact of new proposals before fully endorsing the government’s plans.
