The Upper East Regional Office of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) organized a clean-up exercise on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at the Upper East Regional Museum and the Craft Village in Bolgatanga.
This initiative marked the culmination of the World Tourism Day celebration, a globally recognized event aimed at promoting tourism and preserving cultural heritage.
The clean-up exercise, attended by key stakeholders in the region’s tourism sector, was spearheaded by the Regional Director of the GTA, Wisdom Ahadzi.
In his remarks, Mr. Ahadzi emphasized the importance of maintaining cleanliness at cultural and historical sites, noting that such efforts are crucial for preserving artifacts that reflect the rich heritage of the Upper East Region.
“The preservation of our artifacts is not only about protecting our history but also about ensuring that we maintain these sites as tourist attractions. Cleanliness is essential in showcasing the value of our culture to both locals and visitors,” Mr. Ahadzi stated.
The clean-up event drew participation from several prominent figures, including the Regional Directors of the Center for National Culture and the Museum, alongside various stakeholders in the tourism and cultural sectors.
These participants collectively highlighted the significance of maintaining a clean environment, especially in places of cultural and historical importance.
They also pledged their commitment to organizing similar initiatives in the future to ensure a sustainable approach to cleanliness at regional offices and cultural sites.
Beyond its immediate environmental impact, the exercise underscored the broader goals of the World Tourism Day celebration, which focuses on raising awareness of the social, cultural, and economic value of tourism.
The Upper East Regional Museum and the Craft Village are pivotal sites in the region’s tourism landscape, attracting both local and international visitors interested in the cultural artifacts, traditional crafts, and history of the area.
Events such as this not only contribute to environmental sustainability but also enhance the overall experience for tourists, ensuring that the region’s cultural heritage is well-preserved for future generations.
