Samson Asaki, the National Chairman of the People’s National Convention (PNC), has voiced strong concerns over the party’s recent disqualification from the upcoming presidential elections.
The Electoral Commission (EC) disqualified the PNC flagbearer, Bernard Mornah, along with ten other candidates, citing issues with their nomination forms, including incomplete voter information and inconsistent signatures.
In an interview with A1 Radio, Asaki expressed his determination to ensure the PNC’s participation in the December 7 elections.
He emphasized that despite the EC’s decision, the party’s presence on the ballot is crucial.
“We are committed to fighting for our rightful place in this election. The PNC must be on the ballot come December 7th,” he asserted.
The situation has gained legal traction, as the Accra High Court, presided over by Justice Richard Apietu, has instructed the EC to halt the printing of presidential ballot papers until the court resolves the disqualification suit filed by Mornah.
Asaki views this development as a critical opportunity for the PNC to challenge the EC’s decision and reaffirm its position in the electoral process.
In a related note, the People’s National Party (PNP) has also voiced its discontent over the disqualifications.
The PNP flagbearer, Janet Asana Nabla, remarked that “only God will judge” the EC Chairperson for her role in the disqualification process. She was similarly disqualified for failing to rectify errors in her nomination form.
