Lawyer Charles Bawa-Dua, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the Bongo constituency, has accused the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) of deliberately neglecting the Bongo constituency’s development needs due to its longstanding loyalty to the NDC.
Lawyer Bawa-Dua, who spoke during a campaign launch, alleged that under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the NPP has withheld vital resources and neglected infrastructure development in the area as a form of political retaliation.
The Bongo constituency has consistently backed the NDC in every election since Ghana’s Fourth Republic was established in 1992, consistently voting for NDC candidates in both parliamentary and presidential elections. According to Lawyer Bawa-Dua, this loyalty has led to political marginalization by the NPP administration, with critical development projects bypassing the constituency and impacting residents’ quality of life.
“The evidence is clear, and nobody needs to tell you that the NPP has nothing to offer Ghanaians especially, the people of Bongo. They have neglected us. The president said that as for Bongo and those that don’t vote for them, they will not mind us,” Bawa-Dua claimed.
Lawyer Charles Bawa-Dua, also criticized the ruling NPP government, claiming that several unfulfilled campaign promises demonstrate the party’s lack of commitment to its pledges.
The NDC parliamentary candidate mentioned the government’s 2020 campaign promises that he said have not been realized, including the “One Village, One Dam” policy, the “One District, One Factory” policy, and the “One Million Dollar per Constituency” promise, which he argued has not been fulfilled.
Urging party members to remain vigilant during the upcoming elections, he advised NDC supporters to “safeguard the ballot” to prevent any attempts at electoral manipulation by the NPP.
