The People’s National Convention (PNC) parliamentary candidate for Talensi, Dr. Wombeogo Michael Namalteng, has pledged to prioritize balanced development in Talensi by holding mining companies accountable for local development if elected as a Member of Parliament on December 7.
During a recent interview on A1 Radio, Dr. Wombeogo criticized the minimal contributions of these companies toward Talensi’s growth, despite the substantial mineral wealth they extract from the area.
“Striking a balance among the mining companies in Talensi to meet the development needs of the people is one of my major concerns,” he stated. “These companies, despite the significant minerals they are taking from us, leave little to mention in terms of development. Can someone tell me the major development these mining companies have done for the people of Talensi? Zero, I should say. And what are the very people we elect to speak for us doing, if not watching them with nothing to show?”
Dr. Wombeogo’s comments reflect growing frustration among Talensi residents, who feel they have seen limited benefits from the region’s rich mineral resources.
As a leader with a background in social development, Dr. Wombeogo asserted that he would bring “developmental justice” to the people of Talensi, promising to make the mining sector more accountable and equitable in terms of local investment.
“We can’t continue this way as a people, and I will make sure we bring the developmental justice we need in Talensi. That is a promise I’m making,” he added.
Additionally, Dr. Wombeogo highlighted his intent to tackle the district’s high youth unemployment rate through strategic lobbying efforts aimed at expanding job opportunities.
He believes his professional experience will allow him to effectively negotiate with stakeholders to bring sustainable employment for Talensi’s youth, thereby addressing one of the constituency’s most pressing social challenges.
With these commitments, Dr. Wombeogo aims to bring a fresh approach to Talensi’s representation, focusing on community-centered leadership that ensures local resources directly benefit its residents.
