The Member of Parliament for the Talensi Constituency, Daniel Dung Mahama, and the Talensi District Chief Executive, John Millim Nabwomya, have handed over a newly constructed 30-bed children’s ward to the management of the Tongo District Hospital.

The project was fully funded by the Talensi District Assembly through its Internally Generated Fund (IGF).

The new ward is expected to ease congestion at the hospital, which serves as a referral center for several health facilities in the district.

The Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr. Simon Atanga, expressed gratitude for the intervention, noting that the facility has long faced infrastructure and staffing challenges.

“This hospital is the main referral center in the area, and this facility will go a long way to ease congestion. The new building is more modern than what we currently use and is more befitting for our people. It is a very timely intervention, and we are excited to have it,” he said.

Mr. Mahama pledged continued support for healthcare development in the district and indicated plans to improve health facilities in other communities. He noted that investment in health infrastructure is essential for improving the well-being of residents and promoting economic development.

The MP recently handed over a Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound with nurses’ quarters to the Tindongo community.

The District Chief Executive, John Millim Nabwomya, urged staff of the hospital to take proper care of the new facility and educate patients on how to use it responsibly.

“My advice to the staff is that they should take proper care of the facility. Mothers who bring their children here should also be educated on how to use it properly so that it does not deteriorate quickly,” he said.

The Talensi District Director of Health Services, Juliana Anam-Erima, also expressed appreciation for the project and assured that the facility would be well maintained while providing quality care to patients.
