Paramount Chief of the Talensi Traditional Area, Tongraan Kugbilsong Nalebegteng has appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to use his good office to develop Northern Ghana by improving on the agricultural sector.

According to him, Northern Ghana has a large percentage of its population engaging in agriculture which when given the needed boost, will transform the fortunes of the people and the region.

Tongraan Kugbilsong made this appeal when he was addressing the President and other chiefs when the President paid a courtesy call on the Regional House of Chiefs in the Upper East Region as part of his ‘Accounting to the people tour’.

He noted that “Northern Ghana is quite deprived not because of our own intentions but reasons that I may not be able to mention here but we have to help ourselves”.

He acknowledged that though the President represents the whole country, his position as a president should afford Northern Ghana the opportunity to enjoy massive development since that is a recipe for peace and stability.

“We have to help ourselves. We see him as a brother who can help us a lot even though he is taking care of the whole of Ghana but this is at least an opportunity for us to also do something for us and I am glad that he has come here to mention a lot of projects.”

He used the opportunity to thank chiefs present for ensuring that peace reigns in their communities but reminded them that a bigger hurdle lies ahead as the country readies for the polls in November.

The President is on a two-day visit to the Upper East Region as part of his ‘accounting to the people tour’ of the region.

The President as part of his tour has cut sod for the commencement of work on the Bolgatanga-Bawku road which has been in a deplorable state for years. He has also met with party faithful and religious leaders in the Region.
