The Upper East Regional Minister, Dr. Hafiz Bin-Salih, has commended the people of the region for their exemplary conduct during and after the December 7th General Elections.

Despite initial concerns about potential violence, Dr. Bin-Salih highlighted the collective efforts of traditional leaders and residents in fostering peace, which ultimately dispelled such fears.

Speaking to the media, the Minister expressed his gratitude to the chiefs and residents for their commitment to upholding the region’s reputation as a peaceful enclave. He noted that pre-election analyses had identified the Upper East Region as a potential hotspot for electoral violence. However, the love for peace exhibited by the people overshadowed these predictions, ensuring an orderly and incident-free electoral process.

“I applaud the people of the Upper East Region for proving skeptics wrong. Your unwavering commitment to peace has upheld the democratic values of Ghana,” Dr. Bin-Salih stated.

As part of his post-election engagements, the Minister revealed that he had reached out to Members of Parliament-elect, including the MP-elect for Builsa North, James Agalga, and Bawku Central’s Mahama Ayariga, to congratulate them on their victories. He emphasized the importance of fostering collaboration among leaders to address the region’s development needs and sustain the peace achieved during the elections.

Dr. Bin-Salih also addressed an incident involving the alleged ransacking of the residence of the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Builsa South, Daniel Kwame Gariba, by unknown individuals. He condemned the act, describing it as undemocratic and inconsistent with the principles of Ghana’s political maturity.

“Such behavior does not reflect the democratic ethos we have worked hard to build as a country. I urge all residents to resort to lawful and peaceful means in addressing grievances,” the Minister emphasized.

Dr. Bin-Salih reiterated his commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the region. He appealed to political actors, traditional authorities, and residents to continue promoting dialogue and mutual respect as the region moves forward after the elections.
