Political analyst Ayam Fidelis Atura has called on President John Dramani Mahama to take decisive action against violent activities by some National Democratic Congress (NDC) youth, who have reportedly attacked public offices during and after the 2024 elections.
Speaking in an interview on A1 Radio, Mr. Atura emphasized that the president must intervene to put an end to these incidents and prevent further unrest. He expressed concern that failure to address these attacks might imply complicity on the part of the president. He urged the government to deploy security forces to curb these disturbances, emphasizing that political considerations should not impede decisive action.
“I think the president ought to put his foot down and get security forces to stop these actions. It does not matter if it is within a political context. I understand the need to be cautious with supporters in politics, but he must stand firm,” Mr. Atura stated.
The political analyst highlighted the importance of the president’s leadership during the first year of his administration in maintaining peace and order. He stressed that addressing such issues promptly would ensure government operations are not disrupted.
“For the first year, these incidents must be brought to an end so the president can focus on running his government effectively,” he added.
Mr. Atura warned that failure to address these acts of violence could result in greater challenges in the future. He pointed out that continued unrest could erode public confidence in the president’s ability to govern effectively. He further urged the president to act swiftly to restore law and order, protect public offices, and ensure the safety of all Ghanaians.
