Jonathan Abdallah Salifu, the Upper East Regional Communications Officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has revealed that a total of 158 individuals have expressed interest in the Municipal and District Chief Executive (MDCE) positions across the region.

Speaking on A1 Radio, Mr. Salifu provided specific figures for several districts and municipalities, highlighting that Bongo and Tempane each had 22 applicants, while Garu had 17. He noted that out of the 22 applicants for Tempane, 17 attended the vetting process, while 13 attended the vetting for Garu. In contrast, Bolgatanga East had only three candidates attending the vetting after one of the four applicants withdrew.

“Bongo, for instance, has 22. Yesterday, Tempane also had 22, and then I think Garu has 17. Out of the 22, 17 came for the vetting in Tempane, and out of the 17, 13 came for Garu. Bolga East, fortunately, had just three, which was the number we wanted.”

The three candidates, the chairman (Isaac Ayelatoe Azure), the secretary (Jacob Abugri Aka-eri), and the women’s organizer (Matilda Adombiri-Naba), will all be forwarded to the national level for final decisions, he said.

Mr. Salifu also mentioned that Benjamin Atuasi, his deputy, is vying for the position of District Chief Executive (DCE) for Pusiga. He expressed confidence in Mr. Atuasi’s ability to handle the position effectively, adding that lobbying efforts will continue until the President makes the final selection.

“He’s a good guy. He can handle Pusiga,” Mr. Salifu stated. “The lobbying doesn’t end here. It has to continue until the President makes a choice.”
