The Upper East Regional Communications Officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Jonathan Abdallah Salifu, has appealed to individuals and organizations planning to visit the Regional Minister-designate, Donatus Akamugri Atanga, to hold off on their visits after his approval, swearing-in by the President, and subsequent return to the region.

Mr. Abdallah Salifu explained that while Mr. Atanga’s doors would be open for discussions on the development of the Upper East Region, he would need time to familiarize himself with key regional issues in his early days. Frequent visits, he noted, could distract the minister from settling into his role effectively.

Speaking on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East Show on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, he said:

“When you settle as an appointee, that is when you need time to go over the handing-over notes and understand the structure. Unfortunately, that is often when many people start trooping in just to say they are coming to greet.”

“In doing so, you do not give the appointee the opportunity to study the structure and system. That is not to say his office will not be open,” he added.

Meanwhile, the committee responsible for vetting and scoring applicants for Municipal and District Assemblies (MDAs) in the Upper East Region is set to announce its final determinations by the close of Friday, January 31, 2025.

As part of the announcement, the committee will publish the names of the top three applicants who scored the highest marks in the vetting process for each MDA. This means a total of 45 names will be released across the 15 MDAs in the region.

“The party gave us up to the 31st, which is Friday, so we are working within the timelines. On that score, we will be expecting the list latest by the close of day Friday,” he stated.

Once the committee completes its work, the final decision on who will be nominated as Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs) will be left to the President.
