The Vice Chancellor of Bolgatanga Technical University (BTU), Prof. Samuel Erasmus Alnaa, has disclosed that none of the university’s lecturers have dedicated office spaces, posing significant challenges to their work.
Speaking to the media during the university’s 25th anniversary celebration, Prof. Alnaa emphasized the urgent need for infrastructure support to address the institution’s deficits, particularly lecture halls and offices for lecturers.
The Vice Chancellor painted a vivid picture of the difficulties faced by lecturers, stating that many are forced to use their personal vehicles as makeshift offices. He stressed that this situation is unacceptable and requires immediate intervention.
“No lecturer has an office where they can work independently, conduct research, prepare lesson notes, or provide counseling and guidance to students. They use their cars as offices. That is why this proposed edifice is very important to us—we do not have a lecture hall complex for our students,” he lamented.
Prof. Alnaa appealed to stakeholders, including the government, individuals, and organizations, to support the university in constructing a befitting structure that can provide adequate office spaces for lecturers and address other infrastructure challenges.
“We are appealing to all philanthropic bodies, individuals, and the government because the estimated cost runs into hundreds of millions, which individuals alone cannot afford,” he said.
The lack of office spaces for lecturers is a significant concern, as it hampers their ability to prepare for classes, conduct research, and provide adequate support to students.
To address this challenge, the university is proposing the construction of a multipurpose facility at its main campus, estimated to cost approximately GHC 1,000,000.00.
As part of its 25th anniversary celebration, BTU has launched a fundraising initiative to support this project while awaiting external assistance.
