President John Dramani Mahama has announced that he has directed the Ministry of Finance to rescope the Pwalugu Multipurpose Dam project and integrate it into his administration’s Big Push infrastructure initiative.
This move, he stated, aims to ensure the project receives the necessary financial and technical attention to enhance agriculture, irrigation, and flood control in the Upper East Region.
The President made this announcement during his Thank You tour at Jubilee Park in Bolgatanga, where he expressed appreciation to the chiefs and people of the region for their support in the 2024 general elections.
He assured them that his government remains committed to addressing pressing developmental challenges in the region.
President Mahama also highlighted the poor state of critical road networks, particularly the Bolgatanga-Bawku road, the Bolgatanga-Wa road, and other key linking routes that serve as major trade and transport corridors.
He acknowledged the difficulties these roads pose to commuters and pledged that his administration would prioritize their rehabilitation under the Big Push initiative.
“The people of the Upper East Region deserve better roads, and I want to assure you that we are determined to complete these projects to ease transportation and boost economic activities,” he stated.
The Thank You tour has provided President Mahama with the opportunity to interact with traditional leaders and citizens, reinforcing his government’s commitment to addressing infrastructural deficits and fostering development in the region.
Following his engagements in the Upper East Region, he is expected to proceed to the Northern Region as part of his nationwide tour.
