The Upper East Regional Deputy Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Benjamin Atuasi, has expressed strong support for the recently nominated Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs) in the region, describing the selection process as credible and transparent.
In an interview on A1 Radio, Mr. Atuasi praised the openness and fairness of the nomination process, emphasizing that the rigorous vetting ensured that only competent and committed individuals were selected. He stated that the nominees bring a wealth of experience, having served the party in various capacities, including as constituency chairpersons, secretaries, youth organizers, women organizers, and members of key party committees.
“Once the process was that rigorous, I believe and trust that these nominees will deliver—and deliver well,” he said. “When you look at the nominees who have been shortlisted, you’ll realize that most of them have served at various levels in the NDC. Many have been constituency chairpersons, some are secretaries, others are youth organizers or women organizers, and some have served on key committees.”
Mr. Atuasi pointed out that these individuals have demonstrated dedication and sacrifice in their service to both the party and the public. According to him, their elevation to these critical local government roles reflects their readiness to assume greater responsibility and contribute meaningfully to development efforts at the grassroots level.
“All in all, they have the experience; they have sacrificed for the party; they’ve served people at one point or another—and now it is time for them to occupy these larger offices within the local government structure of our governance system. You cannot help but trust that they will deliver on their mandate.”
While expressing confidence in the nominees’ abilities, he also issued a call for humility and people-centered leadership. He reminded the appointees that the opportunity to serve should not be misconstrued as a platform for exerting power over the people, but rather as a chance to work closely with communities and address their needs.
“I would like to admonish and encourage our nominees not to see this nomination as an opportunity to lord over the people. It’s an opportunity to serve.”
Mr. Atuasi also cautioned against repeating the mistakes of the previous administration, attributing the decline of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to arrogance, a disconnect from the people, and neglect of public concerns. He urged the new MDCEs to remain compassionate, accessible, and focused on service delivery.
