It’s like we’re in a jungle – Ayinbisa condemns ‘raids’ on home of previous appointees

The Upper East Regional Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Peter Ayinbisa, has voiced concerns over what he describes as an atmosphere of fear and political intimidation under the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration.

Speaking during an interview on A1 Radio, Ayinbisa stated that just three months into office, the NDC government has created a climate of tension across the country, with opposition members and former government officials reportedly facing targeted harassment and unexpected raids.
“Just three months into office, Ghanaians have started feeling the heat of this party,” he remarked.

He cited multiple incidents involving high-profile individuals from the previous government, including former officials from the Bank of Ghana and the Ministry of Finance, whose homes were reportedly raided. He also referenced the recent arrest of the former Deputy Minister of Education and Member of Parliament for Assin South, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, in connection with two aircraft allegedly involved in transporting illicit drugs and laundered money through Ghana. According to Ayinbisa, this incident forms part of a broader pattern of political intimidation.

Mr. Ayinbisa questioned the methods used in these operations, describing them as extreme and likening them to militant-style actions rather than standard legal procedures. He expressed concern over the involvement of masked operatives and the display of heavy weaponry during arrests, calling the approach alarming and unnecessary in a democratic state.

“This is not rambo style; this is ninja style. You want to arrest someone to the extent that you mask yourself? If you have the legitimate right to arrest the person, why do you have to mask yourselves? Why do you have to wield gun-pumping machines? It looks like we are in a jungle. Something is missing in this country, and I want to urge our president to call or train his house because left, right, and center—what is happening now is not good,” he lamented.

He further criticized the lack of transparency following these actions, alleging that in many cases there is no follow-up in court or a clear legal process after such raids. This, he said, raises serious questions about the motive behind the operations and respect for the rule of law.
“They don’t even go to court after the raid to say, ‘this is what we found in your house,’ and subject you to court processes. What’s the meaning of this?” he questioned.

The NPP official called on President John Mahama to rein in the excesses, emphasizing that political transitions should not be used as an excuse to silence or intimidate opponents.
“Our MPs are being intimidated left, right, and center. Every day, you wake up to news of a raid here or there. I mean, John Mahama, we didn’t vote for you to come and begin to intimidate your political opponents,” he said.
