It has emerged that five vehicles belonging to the upper east regional health directorate cannot be found following an inventory of properties of the directorate.

The Regional Director in-charge of health services Dr. Kofi Issah revealed this during the half year performance review meeting in Bolgatanga.

“I did stocking taking and realized five vehicles were not in the inventory. So once they were not in the inventory, definitely I have to take administrative measures…one of which was to ask the office of the Director General to advise me as to what to do. So am still awaiting that advice though I have informed the regional minister, am somebody who follows procedure and so am awaiting their next direction,” Dr. Issah revealed.

The missing vehicles according to him include 2 pick-up vehicles, 1 saloon car, 1 V8 and a Mitsubishi Pajero.

He assured of his commitment to ensure due process is taken to find the vehicles adding ‘If nothing is being done, then definitely the guidelines and policies of this country are there and we will then know what step to take without sensationalizing any issue.”

On how it affects the affairs of the directorate, he added that “I have had to collect my Deputy Director in-charge of clinical care vehicle to use because that is what I can use. The ministry gave them the vehicle to use for clinical care after the Ebola issues finished. So I have looked round and simply said he should bring and for him well, I just have to now collect another pick-up from rapid response and give it to him. That means if they are going to do rapid response, they will then have to call him to release the vehicle. So if he is going to travel and this vehicle is not there then that means I have to release this vehicle but I am not downhearted. The only thing is that the little resources you have, you work on it, I want accountability,” he said.

Meanwhile Tongraan Kugbilsong Nalebktang, Paramount chief of the Talensi traditional area who served as Chairman for the occasion bemoaned the development and prevailed upon the regional minister to expedite efforts in finding the vehicles.

“I just do not know how that can happen, 5 vehicles are said to be missing or cannot be traced or have vanished into thin air. I will like to appeal to the regional minister, though the director has already reported to hi, to expedite efforts on it. You see we as a region don’t have these things and if vehicles can just get missing without being accounted for, it is quite a serious matter and we should not take it lightly. I know this regional minister will ensure that we find them.”

This year’s review was on the theme: “Harnessing human resources for effective leadership and service delivery with focus on newborn care and sub-district health systems.”
