The Assembly Member for the Beo-Tankoo Electoral Area in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region, Emmanuel Akolgo Ayinpanga, has lamented the slow pace of development in his community, describing it as a place “completely left behind.”
Speaking on Bolga FM’s Tinmaalgo Sanga on Thursday, May 1, 2025, Mr. Ayinpanga painted a grim picture of life in Beo-Tankoo—a predominantly farming community bordering Akayoga, Tankoo, Nabdam, and Dachio—where residents are grappling with severe water shortages, poor roads, and limited access to electricity.
“Beo-Tankoo is cut off from the progress other areas are seeing. Our roads are terrible. Many communities are only accessible by crossing dangerous rivers because the bridges haven’t been constructed,” he said. “On market days and school days, this becomes a nightmare. Children are often forced to stay home because they fear crossing the rivers, especially during the rainy season.”
While some parts of the electoral area have access to electricity, Mr. Ayinpanga noted that many households remain disconnected from the national grid, creating both security and communication challenges. “People walk long distances just to charge their phones, and at night, the darkness makes us vulnerable to theft and insecurity,” he added.
He is therefore calling on the government and development partners to intervene urgently by constructing bridges, opening up roads, providing potable water, and ensuring full electricity coverage. According to him, these measures will significantly improve the community’s economy and quality of life.
“Without good roads and bridges, our farm produce cannot reach nearby markets. Without water and electricity, daily life remains a struggle,” the Assemblyman stressed.
