The Upper East Regional Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Peter Ayinbisa, has expressed concern over what he sees as a troubling trend of the government setting low benchmarks and celebrating them as achievements.
Speaking during an interview on A1 Radio, Mr. Ayinbisa questioned the significance of some of the targets the presidency has marked as successes. He argued that certain actions being presented as major milestones are, in fact, routine administrative duties that should not be highlighted as accomplishments.
One of the areas he raised concerns about is the formation of the president’s cabinet. According to him, appointing ministers is a basic constitutional responsibility that any government should carry out without fanfare. He noted that there is no specific constitutional deadline for constituting a cabinet, and completing this process within a short timeframe should not be seen as a major feat.
Ayinbisa also took issue with the organization of forums and the launch of government initiatives, describing them as relatively simple activities. He argued that organizing stakeholder or economic forums does not reflect deep policy engagement or strategic governance, but rather the execution of events that require minimal effort.
He further questioned the significance of launching programs such as the “Edwumawura” initiative and tech-based projects like the Coders Program, suggesting that these efforts often amount to ceremonial gatherings without tangible results. For him, the real work lies in ensuring that these programs are supported with adequate resources and sound implementation strategies.
On the matter of funding, Ayinbisa warned against equating budgetary allocations with actual delivery. He pointed out that announcing funds for a project is only the first step, and the real measure of commitment is in disbursing those funds and ensuring they are used effectively. According to him, many of the current administration’s so-called accomplishments fall into the category of promises rather than concrete results.
