Since its creation, the Bolgatanga East District has not had its own office for the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).

This has meant that residents seeking NHIA services have had to travel to nearby districts—such as the Bolgatanga Municipality—to access registration and renewal services.

However, this is about to change, according to the recently confirmed District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bolgatanga East, Jacob Abugre Aka-eri. He made the announcement during an interview with A1 Radio’s Mark Smith on Tuesday, May 14, 2025.

“The district has not had an NHIA office. We have discussed this with the CEO of the NHIA, Victor Bampoe, and he has agreed to construct a district office so that our people can register and renew their cards here,” Mr. Aka-eri said.

He explained that the Assembly has already submitted a site plan as requested by the NHIA.

“We have identified the location and are now waiting for further details from the NHIA so we can move forward,” he added.

Meanwhile, the recently confirmed District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Bolgatanga East District, Jacob Abugre Aka-Eri, has expressed his commitment to ensuring that the road network in the area is expanded and existing roads improved.

Speaking to A1 Radio’s Mark Smith in his first media engagement after being confirmed, Mr. Aka-Eri explained that, in collaboration with the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Dr. Dominic Ayine, there will be sustained efforts to improve the road infrastructure.

“Apart from the Bolga-Bawku road, we only have the Licence Office–Zuarungu road, which is partly tarred. Apart from that, all the other roads are in a deplorable state. Together with the MP, we intend to push for additional roads.”
